Delicious allows users to submit, tag, save and share website and blog content. Launched in 2003, the social bookmarking site, which was purchased by Yahoo in 2005, recently went through a remodeling project that improved site speed, search capabilities and the user interface.
Using delicious is fairly simple: create a free account and begin bookmarking articles of interest. There are several ways to bookmark an article:
♦ Click on the “Save a new bookmark” link in the upper right hand corner of the delicious site and add the URL of the page or blog
♦ When on a website and you see the delicious icon or the
button, just click the delicious icon and it will redirect you to your account login
♦ Install the delicious toolbar for Firefox or Internet Explorer bookmark using the browser toolbar delicious icon.
Profile: Following account set up, be sure and go to Settings and Edit Public Profile to create optional information that is displayed on your Bookmarks page. You can add display name, an email and/or your website URL.
Tagging: Once you have bookmarked an article, you can add notes or a short description and tags that describe the article. The tags serve as a method for organizing the content of the many articles.
Build a delicious network: To add a user to your network, click on the “Add a user to your network” button and type the user name in the box. Adding a name creates a status of Fan and if the user reciprocates, the symbol with change to Mutual Fan. Business uses: There are several delicious business benefits. First, delicious can be a great resource when conducting product or market research – search by tagged terms and find information from a wide variety of sources.
Additionally, businesses should submit their own articles of interest for the delicious community. White papers, instructional information, market data, and blog topics all make great submission opportunities and extend your brand into the marketplace.
How big is delicious? eBizMBA’s 20 Aug 2008 rankings of the top 25 Web 2.0 sites ranked delicious at 20th with an estimated monthly visitor count of 1.3 to 1.7 million.
