docstoc is a user generated community for sharing professional documents that was launched in late 2007.  The free service allows users to access nearly 700,000 legal, business, technology, educational and creative documents that have been uploaded by other docstoc users.

Supported file types include .doc, .pdf, ,xls, .ppt, and .txt.

Users currently may also store an unlimited amount of private documents for personal online access or sharing through use of a secret URL.

Uploaded documents are marked by the submitter with creative commons licensing and protection ranging from public domain, to multiple flavors of Attribution, to Traditional Copyright: All rights reserved.  All documents not marked private can be searched and viewed.  Documents with copyright protection cannot be downloaded.

docstoc Users: There are just under 200,000 docstoc users, which are called docsters. docsters are ranked by docs viewed, downloaded, reviewed and rated and can be searched by a wide variety of characteristics.  Most docstoc users are business professionals or students.

Dallas on docstoc: A search for Dallas docsters produced 305 Dallas users and Fort Worth/Ft Worth listed 93.

Getting started: docstoc users create a profile that can include their website URL and also a blog profile and URL.  The docstoc profile can also link to Facebook or LinkedIn profiles.
