Local Search & Social Networking with Yelp

Yelp is a local search, social networking and user review site.  Yelp members share reviews on businesses listed, as Yelp puts it – “real people writing real reviews.”

Founded in 2005, Yelp has grown to cover 21 metropolitan areas in the US and Canada, with offices in San Francisco andNew York.

Yelp for Business Owners: To get your business listed on Yelp complete the Business Owner Account form with your business name, address, phone, website URL and eMail address.  Within a few days, you should receive an email from Yelp linking to a confirmation page.  Once there, Yelp places an automated verification phone call to the listing number and upon answering, you will be allowed access to set up a profile page.

The Yelp Business Owner profile includes: Business information, categories, website, URL, business photos and the ability to create announcements.

Business owners can view how many members have visited their page, access reviews and message members that have reviewed their business.  Find out more with the Yelp Business Guide.

According to Yelp, 85 percent of reviews are neutral to positive.

Yelp is a great website, the best in the local search game. It goes to show what can be accomplished if with user-generated data.
