Triiibes: The Tribe Has Spoken-Triiibes Stays Invitation Only

“It’s sort of a cross between Facebook, a blog and Squidoo.”
– Seth Godin

In anticipation of the October launch of his new book, Tribes, master marketer Seth Godin created Triiibes, an invitation-only community this summer.   Those receiving an invitation were required to pre-purchase the book to gain access to the online community of marketers, which is created on the Ning platform.

Although there was much anticipation that Triiibes would be opened to additional members when the book launched last week, it appears the Tribe has spoken and decided to keep it private.   A new message has appeared on the Triiibes login screen stating:

This network is by invitation for the foreseeable future. If you were advised that we’d be opening it one day, it seems as though we won’t… the triiibe voted to keep it closed for now. I’m sorry. If you have an invitation, click the link in the email to join.

Since we have had inquiries about how to join Triiibes, we decided to provide a little insight to what lies behind the Triiibes walls.

What the Tribe does on Triiibes

Inspire. Illuminate.  Innovate.

Triiibes members can set up a personal Triiibes Page with an image, photos, URL, extra text, third-party widgets and personal information which includes answering various questions like “Do you lead a tribe? Tell us about who you lead?”

Triiibes members can also review their latest activity, check in on Triiibes friends, access Triiibes groups, and check out the Triiibes job board.   As of this post, there are 3694 Triiibes members.

What’s Next on Triiibes?

We check in on Triiibes each day and will post an update if membership opens again.

In the mean time, check out the Tribes book – it is short and a good read and here’s a video of the Triiibe – by my count, I’m picture 77.

  1. It’s a great audio book, too! I’m listening to it and it was a sweet 95 cent purchase from iTunes.

  2. Oh well now I feel left out! LOL! No seriously, this is a really interesting post. I didn’t preorder the book, but I will have to check it out now. Thanks! :)

The book really is good. I do hope they open up Triibes again though – I think there are only 6 or so people from DFW and that’s not very social. :-0

Wow … that explains some of the cryptic things I’ve seen floating around the various internet social scenes.

Between this and the whole “law of attraction” and “The Secret” … it seems to me that entrepreneurial business is becoming more of a playground/sandbox scene. Kinda sad when you think about it.

I guess the concept of becoming the full measure of the man/woman is not on too many agendas.

I’ll stick with my open and welcoming networks. There be some pretty cool folk populating them!

  5. I’m a member of Triiibes.com and have been since it first opened. Contrary to what you might think, we didn’t vote to keep it closed to be snotty elitists. We voted to keep it closed because in the weeks and months it was closed we got pretty close and personal. People there respect each other. There’s no flaming. No one is spamming you or selling you crap. It’s very much a community of people who are truly interested in helping each other and the world. We wanted to keep it that way. Any close knit group that shares information, and whose members become open – even vulnerable, in their blogs, posts and talks about their dreams, don’t want it all thrown open to the internet, where trolls, spammers, idiots and jerks are free to come and plunder. We’ve worked hard to create a community – not to exclude others. There are plenty of cool networks out there. Becoming the full measure of a man or woman isn’t limited to just Triiibes.com. It’s anywhere people who care want to contribute. I’m sorry you’re so angry about it, but it’s not personal. It’s not manipulative. It’s just a boundary.

as i know u know, caring and helping are fundamental to a life well lived, at least for the folks in our tribe…

and here some thoughts some may not have yet seen

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

“If you could only love enough, you could be the most powerful person in the world.” – Emmett Fox

“Love has to spring spontaneously from within, And it is in no way amenable to any inner or outer force. Love and coercion can never go together; but, though Love cannot be forced on any one, It can be awakened in him through love itself. Love, is essentially self-communicative: Those who do not have it, catch it from those who do have it. True Love is unconquerable and irresistible; And it goes on gathering power and spreading itself, until eventually it transforms everyone whom it touches. “To penetrate into the essence of all being and significance, and to release the fragrance of that inner attainment for the guidance and benefit of others, by releasing in the world of forms, truth, love purity and beauty… This is the sole game that has any intrinsic and absolute worth. All other happenings, incidents and attainments can, in themselves, have no lasting importance.” – Meher Baba

“When you cease to make a contribution, you begin to die.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

“Whoever performs ONLY his duty is not DOING his duty.” – Bahya Pakuda

“In the long run, we get no more than we have been willing to risk giving.” – Sheldon Kopp

“It takes courage for a person to listen to her own goodness and act on it. Each person has inside a basic decency and goodness, and when she acts on it, she is giving a great deal of what it is the world needs most.” – Pablo Casals

“In nothing do men more closely approach the Gods than by doing good to their fellow man.” – Cicero

“Fall in love with your market, not your product.” – Clay Cotton, 2001

Love the book Seth, I have been an apprentice for years, your blogs inspire me daily. Thank you for your insights, twisted sense of humor, and would love, love, love to be worthy someday of joining your Triiibe!

Your blog today could not mean more to people….giving is far better than receiving, its an endless “universal loop” that you dont need to manage!

Warmest wishes for a happy and healthly holiday!
