U Comment, I Follow
written by khull on Sep 28, 2008

We are taking a brief break from the Social Media 101 series to mention a slight change we have made to the blog. We have decided to join the “U Comment, I Follow movement” and implemented the change this weekend.
Most blog platforms default to a “no follow” setting for comments. In other words, when you leave a comment on a blog, even though you may leave the URL to your website, the blog is coded to advise search engines not to follow the link.
This was initially implemented to combat spam, but with spam programs like Akismet, which we use on our blog, the spam comments are automatically removed. We want to encourage readers to leave their comments and allow links back to their sites for those who participate.
To implement the change, we installed the Do Follow plugin for Wordpress and then used one of the cool U Comment, I Follow badges developed by Randa Clay design to let our readers know.
So - enjoy the content, leave a comment and gain a link.

Hi, I am a guide dog raiser in Seattle, WA. The puppy I am currently raising is named Shep. I love your blog and I love reading about other people’s experiences. I also have a website where I sell pet supplies and i have a blog on it also about guide dogs. I built the site to try and help raise money for guide dogs and other animal charities. http://maayangordon.blogspot.com

Oh thank you for posting this. I had previously removed the “no-follow” from my blogger blog, and mentioned this in my sidebar, but love the badge. So much more powerful than more text in the sidebar…
Replacing text with the badge right now.
Thanks!

I’ve created a dofollow website that searches only dofollow websites. This makes it a little easier to find them and maybe you can find some related to your niche.

I too have recently removed the nofollow tags from my blog.
I’ve also modified Randa Clay’s original badge design for a 88*32 size. You can get the html code for the smaller badge at:
