Business social network, Ecademy, was founded in 1998 in the UK by Penny Powers. A decade later, according to ecademy, there are millions of worldwide users on the site each year and over 41,000 businesses participating in Ecademy USA.
While ecademy is often compared to LinkedIn or Plaxo , ecademy has a different feel. First, for most users, their LinkedIn or Plaxo network is built from people they already know – friends and past professional relationships. Ecademy is more social, with members contacting others to introduce themselves and add other members as contacts.
The second distinct difference is the international influence. Member updates are continually shown on the home page and the population of users from different countries and backgrounds is both interesting and informative.
A free ecademy membership allows tmembers to create a profile including:
♦ Standard bio and location information
♦ Ability to upload a large image and a logo
♦ Inclusion of website URL and blog URL
♦ Fifty keywords
♦ Inclusion of other social network feeds
Members can also:
♦ Publish status updates – “What I’m doing now”
♦ Easily contact other ecademy members or invite non-members
♦ View feeds from their contacts or everyone on ecademy
♦ Join clubs
♦ View a calendar of member meetings and ecademy events
♦ Advertise in the ecademy marketplace
♦ Learn more about networking from the ecademy Institute of Networking
To search for other Dallas-area members, simply type your search term in the upper right hand search box; let’s use the example, Dallas. The list returned will include any profile with Dallas included. To narrow the search by location, click on “Dallas” in the location column of one of the returned results and you have your results. (There are 121 Dallas, TX results).
Beyond the free membership, two additional levels of membership are available – Power Networker with an orange star designation and the Black Star level, designated by a black star.
So, check out eCademy.
One note – if you only offer products in a specific region (example: the US or Dallas-area), you should state it in your profile – but we would encourage networking with others around the globe.
And, once you are on ecademy – contact us with an ecademy message and let’s network!
