Twitter Goes Gray – Oldies But Goodies on Twitter

By now most everyone has heard that more than 60% of US

Twitter users fail to return the following month. But, how about the graying of Twitter?

Twitter Demographics

Citing comScoreMatrix, eMarketer recently published a Twitter Demographic breakdown that shows the largest percentage of tweeters are age 25 – 54.

So, 45-54 year olds are the most likely to visit Twitter.

Guess that means you can forget those Mother’s Day cards for Mom and Grandma – just send them a tweet.

  1. I am just 21 and visit twitter daily .Since people have active profiles on other social sites it would take some time to shift them permanently to twitter

So true. I don’t know how many times I find myself going from friendfeed, to twitter, to facebook, etc. to check in on everyone. Duo is a cool tool for updating Twitter and Facebook at once from your phone. Thanks for your comments and have a great day!

    Well done, great post!

Yes the biggest myth is that Twitter is mainly for teens which is far from the Truth. Most Teens love their Myspace sites and hate the fact that their mom and dads are on Twitter which makes it more of a reason to stay away from.

I’ve been on Twitter for a while and my son and his friends, who are all in their twenties, had no idea what I was talking about. I have some great Twitter interactions with some college age tweeters though, so I have hope we didn’t completely “uncool” it for a whole generation. Thanks for your comments!

Didn’t realize so many boomers were into Twitter. Well of course I’m one myself.

And, to that I say, “ouch”. Come closer so I can hit you with my cane, sonny.

  7. Great Data analysis ,I think twitter is manly used for professional and marketing purposes therefore 25-54 age group is mainly active on twitter

I agree with your analysis – I just wish many of the people using it for marketing would spend a bit more time interacting with those their broadcasting to. Thanks!

  8. I think the reason they tend to love twitter so much is because of the simplicity.. twitter is way simpler to use than any other web2.0 site

    • admin says:

It is so simple and easy to use. I am always dreaming up new features it needs – and that would probably ruin it if they did them all! Thanks for your comment!

I’ve been encouraging my dad to use twitter for his art business. He’s 54.

I encourage every small business owner to use Twitter. It is a perfect way to connect with like-minded others around the world. Hope your Dad jumps in!

I’m in the 25-34 age group. I actually didn’t start getting on to Twitter until recently. So glad I did because I just found me an awesome business partner.

From your demographic I run into a lot people that aren’t on Twitter yet. I find it really interesting since text messaging and the internet is more of just a normal way of life than for older demographics. Thanks for your comments and glad you found success with Twitter!
